With the promise of the new Colleen Hoover book being as genius and twisted as Verity; I couldn’t wait to get my hands on the newest release called Woman Down. I’ve read quite a couple of books by Colleen and apart from Verity and the It ends with us duology I didn’t like them.
But, psychological thrillers I’m here for; is it as good as Verity or doesn’t even come close and is it really a psychological thriller or meh?

First off, I’ve read this book within a day – I was very intrigued by the story and progression of said story but no, it isn’t as twisted and messy as Verity; it’s a bit tamer and not necessarily a psychological thriller.
Petra Rose is a writer that has been in survival mode the past year. Why? Her book was picked up to be a movie adaption; but they absolutely **** the movie up by cutting out a very important character, which made the fans go feral. (This reminded me of the ‘it ends with us’ debacle) The hate got so bad that Petra went dark on her socials. This whole fiasco resulted in writers block, it became so bad that with a deadline approaching and not even twenty pages on her laptop she decides to rent a cabin for a couple of weeks to go all out in writing her new book.
The love triangle is a must, that’s what her fans are in love with. She has the outline ready; a lawyer named Reya who falls in love with a married cop named Cam but the words aren’t coming not until she gets a wake-up call by someone at her door; a detective named Nathaniel Saint. He is like the physical representation of Cam, he even wears a wedding ring! He gave his card after telling her there was an incident down the road and he needed a statement but it could wait until morning.
The next day she doesn’t hear anything, that’s when she decides that she’ll sent him a text explaining that she’s a writer and one of the characters of her book is a cop and she needs some pointers. He accepts and comes by a little later that night. After telling him about the outlines of her book he seems to shift. ‘What was the first kiss like for Reya?’ well, it was at her house and the kiss got very heated. I can’t really explain the feelings because I don’t feel them but after that kiss, he picks up his phone and walks out the door… That’s when Saint gives her the most passionate and heated kiss ever, picks up his phone and slams the door on his way out. This actually gave Petra so much writing fuel she starts writing until she can’t keep her eyes open any longer.
Saint seems to be wanting to play out Cam’s part – to give Petra the inspiration she needs; but in doing this, Petra needs to play out Reya’s part and it’s so hot and steamy. Will the parts that are being played out fiction or… Petra has trouble seeing where fiction ends and reality begins.
So much more happens, but I don’t want to spoil so I’m leaving my review at this.
It’s a solid ⭐⭐⭐⭐ star read!
