Another booktok hyped book that ended up on my TBR shelf, mainly because the people that read the book said there were elements similar to the hunger games in this one and I looooove me some hunger games type of books.

In Dividium there are three sectors; Lower sector which houses the poor people, mid sector is where doctors, physicians, dentists etc reside and the upper sector is where the council and their family live and the people with the most credits to their name.

Raven lives in the Lower sector with her brother Jed and has become a bounty hunter, not by choice but out of necessity. Their parents got sent to Endlock 7 years prior and Jed was only 11 at the time which meant Raven had to step up and become the sole provider in her family which was tough because with the strikes she’s had she wasn’t able to study to become a doctor. With bounty hunting the only option, she just did what she had to do but she did still have a moral compass. She wouldn’t arrest people that were stealing food because they’ve grown hungry, no. Only the real criminals she chased. And the one she got today earned her a thousand credits!

Hours later it became clear that Jed had been sent off to Endlock for slapping the counselor’s son. It’s Aggie (her mother’s best friend and rebel) that told Raven about Jed, but she had a plan to get him out even though no one has ever successfully escaped Endlock before. Once Raven is arrested and has been carted off to Endlock, she can’t believe her eyes, she never imagined this place to be as huge as it really is. Seeing all of the rich people and their kids in the resort part of Endlock enjoying live.

The rules become clear; You are nothing more then a number, someone to make the Council money until you die, there are 3 rounds of hunts each day with 10 hunters each round. The hunters get to pick who they want to hunt. If you survive you could climb up in rank and get more luxuries. No talking to the guards unless you are spoken to, no inflicting harm upon other inmates and when you are chosen for the hunt? You can’t harm the hunter nor can you interfere with another inmate that is hunted.

Raven takes it all in and tries to lay low until she has met her mark, the one the collective wants to have out of Endlock which means she has to smuggle herself, her brother and this mark out of this prison. Having been a bounty hunter, a lot of the inmates are people she put there which makes residing their kind of dangerous because guards can be persuaded to look the other way.

The hunt takes place outside of Endlock in a huge forest like field with electrical fences all around. You have a 2-minute head start and begin as the back sector, you then have 30 minutes to find a save way to the middle sector because a forcefield will be released and the pain you’ll endure when you’re not where you’re supposed to be is incapacitating. You then have another half an our in the middle sector, after that time is done the forcefield will shift again. In the last sector there is a blood tree in the middle, once you touch that, you’re save from the hunt.

A lot of people die and only the strongest and smartest have a chance to survive. I can’t wait for the next book!
