In February an author contacted me through Instagram and asked me to read her debut novel, the Queen’s Card which I accepted, that one was so fantastical. Now, months later with the second novel being published next month, I got my hands on the ARC version. The author of these fantastic novels is Erin Archer.

A quick recap; Lander is a mortal kingdom, the only ones with magic are the keepers of the princess. They are her personal guard and have keeper magic, but they also carry a curse which makes them shift into ravens.
Mira was a keeper without the magic being unlocked and got kidnapped by Bael and taken to Azrea, a Queendom ruled by an evil Queen that cursed many. The first novel is about stopping the queen and breaking the curses.
The second book begins in Lander, the king being wary about anything magic and not lifting a finger to help rebuild the city that has been hit hard with the Queen’s rage. He awaits help from Brevalin, but that doesn’t seem to arrive. So, Mira gets help from Elyse and Ambrose to at least repair the docks so ships can come to shore again.
But they’re caught and exiled for wanting to help, escorted by the King’s second in command to the beach where Bael is waiting. Ambrose is heir to the Azrean throne so that’s where he’ll go. Mira obviously goes with Bael to Brevalin but where will Elyse go? Being a keeper was her identity and now, that’s gone.
Brevalin has its own skeletons in the closet, there have been attacks by beasts and the guards can only fight with their magic and not without. Bael and Mira are on a quest to find the card that beholds all that has been cursed. But which card is it, where is it and how will they wield it? Can they even wield it?
A lot happens within the time she is in Brevalin, but that you have to read for yourself.
This book has a great storyline, but it is different from the first book. The first one was more action packed and this one more about storytelling and detailing. Which means the next one will be more of an action-packed book is my guess.
This book was a solid ⭐⭐⭐⭐ star read!
