The conclusion of the Annie Graham series was a rather good one! The face behind the mask is the last book in this series but it is open ended so, we might get another book; who knows.

In this last book we are 6 months into motherhood and Annie and Will loved every minute of it. Kav has gone and enjoying his pension while still dating Cathy. The beginning of this book isn’t a happy one though since we’re attending a funeral; Stu’s. Multiple people blame themselves for Stu’s demise; Debs for cheating which led to Stu drowning out his sorrow with alcohol, Annie for letting Stu into her house when she knew he was hammered and looked quite agitated and Will for letting him be shipped of to his former house with Debs, during the drive over he did a runner, running in front of a speeding police car.
While Annie didn’t want to come to said funeral she knows she had to come to support Will since it was his colleague and friend. She did leave once it was appropriate, waiting at Alex and Jake’s house for Will to call for a pick-up since he and a few others went to the café to do some shots. When Will got dropped of at Jake’s in the back of a police van wasted beyond believe, Annie couldn’t believe her eyes. Mad? No, but she was disappointed.
When the news was broadcasted and a clip played showing a white house with a blue door, Annie got intrigued because she just dreamed about that house. She wasn’t sure what her dream meant because it didn’t show much until the dream eventually progressed and showed a body and someone in a clown suit fleeing the scene. What did she just witness? Well, somewhat witness…
Annie is still on maternity leave and has only a couple of months left before she has to make a very important choice. Does she remain a PCSO or quite her job and do something else altogether? With the ghost that projects what’s happening in her dreams but doesn’t show him or herself… Annie gets frightened, what kind of ghost is this? Is it friendly or is she haunted yet again?
With absolutely nothing to go on with the body that has been found, this is a case that looks as unsolvable as can be. The poor woman volunteered at a hospice, didn’t have any friends or family and other that doing the volunteering job is a recluse. Even her neighbor doesn’t really know her. Which makes it hard for Will to figure this one out. When Annie tells him about what she has been dreaming about, Will flips a switch; he gets so angry with her and she in return. Something they both haven’t ever been at each other. It’s not like Annie can do something about her 6th sense thing.
Will doesn’t want Annie to get involved since they have Alfie now, he wants her safe because he can’t imagine Alfie growing up without his mother.
Can Will and his team find the one responsible? Can Annie withstand the temptation and keep well away from this case? What has Annie so spooked and scared? What will she do, quit her job or…? And if so, what will she even do?
It’s been a ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ star read for me, the clown was scary as heck and the flashbacks to 1950 and the circus were cool!
