The Crimson Throne duology has been finalized with this last book with the expected publication date at the 6th of October 2026. The second book will be named ‘the blood queen’ and will be about Samson and Alyth continuing their search on how to save Scotland and the Fae realm which is no small feat.

Alyth has been caught by the Red Caps and is brought back to base to meet with Queen Elizabeth also known as The High Blade whom is high fae and loves to wreak havoc but also to find a way into the fae realm where she has been banished from since murdering the fae queen. Alyth is unconscious for most of the ride and it makes Samson worry, what if something is wrong with Alyth? But he has to play his part, being the son of one of the higher ups with the Red Caps he can’t let them know what Alyth means to him and has to make them believe he’s actually on their side. It’s the only way to know what is going to happen to Alyth and eventually get her out of their predicament.

The high blade is fierce; torturing people is something so ‘fun’ in the eyes of those who are in her inner ring, it’s like they go off on it. Alyth is being tortured as well, tortured until she finally cracks and tells them about the portals that lead to the fae realm. When Alyth names a couple of them from which she actually knows that they are deactivated; but she isn’t the only one that knows. The high blade sees right through her and tortures some more. It isn’t until Alyth told them about one that sounded promising that The High Blade decides to take a small army and Samson and Alyth to said location.

A lot can go wrong, there are creatures roaming the earth that just want to be left alone but if you’re crossing them, they will do you harm and in the chaos of that, Alyth and Samson escape to the fae realm where they plead their case and ask for reinforcements because the high blade is back and actively looking for portals but the Fae princes aren’t that alarmed. When a ball is taking place and Alyth tries again to sway one of the stronger princes to become allies, the prince tells her he needs to think about it. Sneaking out of the party they sneak their way into the throne room that has been sealed ever since the Fae Queen vanished. There has to be a Red Cap weapon in that room that did what it did. Once in the throne room they soon realize they are not the only ones in attendance… Every piece of furniture seems to have been wrapped in… spider silk? And there are thousands of tiny spiders! Samson panics since he’s terrified of them, but then… over the throne she comes, a huge spider, one that tells a story about what happened and how the loom the queen threaded is the answer to getting rid of the high blade.

Sending them on another wild goose chase.

What do they need to find? Will they find it? Will both be even making it out alive and what about the high blade? Will she succeed in crossing over to the fae realm?

It’s a 4 star read for me!
