This month I’ve put an August TBR together with books I really wanted to read. One was very high on my list to read but I didn’t pick it up earlier and I don’t really know why, maybe because the next one will be released in September? The book I’ve just read is Storm breaker by Nisha J. Tuli; I’ve fallen in love with her writing style when I read the Artefects of Ouranos series.
Storm breaker is a little different though and not one to compare because the book was a bit long, the details sometimes to detailed and a chapter a bit to long. To make my explanation short; the book could’ve been without ¼ of the sentences in there. Making it a bit of a drag and making me skip through some lines. Also, the name of the FMC… Poet? Huh?

It’s the last night of freedom before Poet and a lot of similar aged kids start their three your school adventure at Amery Academy. Just three more years of semi freedom before Poet has to marry Knox, a boy she once loved but has broken her heart over and over again by fondling with other females. Where once love floated through her veins now only hate is left. After the warming age everything changed, there are different kinds of storms and to keep power going, a general needs to catch the lightning bolts and bent them to her will. There are also people with wands that collect and release the energy into antennas so it’ll go into the ground so it can fizzle out. A storm is brewing and it doesn’t take long for lightning to strike a person – this person gets ‘blitzed’ which means there isn’t much left of the body, it being all blackened and crispy. People scatter to safety and Poet takes this opportunity to go to her room quietly. Her nerves are on edge, she needs the spark only then will the edge and nervousness she’s feeling still again.
There are four houses in the society; Fiama, Aria, Tera, Asale. Poet’s father is the scion of house Fiama which means he hold the reigns within that society. To become scion, he had to make an alliance with someone else and with that making a promise that after both the children finish Amery, they would be wed making Poet a society wife and Knox the new Scion. Poet never had it good, her father wasn’t a loving man in fact, he was angry all the time and if you stepped out of line, you’d feel what the consequences were of your actions.
At Amery you have 4 trails to do and you have to pledge to a house before it begins; if you’ve managed to make it through two you can plegde to that house. With Poet being from Fiama and her father being scion, she is to be pledging for Fiama but when she hears the first trail assignment she defects to Aria, she has three trails left so she can still make it to Fiama. With her father outraged with her choice and once again showing his true colors Poet decides that maybe, just this once, she should choose what she wants instead of living her live managed by others. She wants to be a storm guard, not a society wife. Her best friend Trinity pledges to Aria to become an E-guard, which is something hated by most because they seek out people that aren’t affected by lightning strikes. Making it hard for Poet to be around her best friend, but her best friend seems to not want to be around her either.
There’s also a solitude this year named Rook Athira, solitudes are hated by most of the society people but Rook doesn’t seem to mind. Poet hated him to, but eventually they grew closer and closer. He knows her secret, but will he keep it save? And, is Rook really someone that will help Poet find what she needs to find to make known that she’s not the enemy? Or will he turn his back on her when Poet is found out? And Trin, will she stab Poet in the back by giving her up to the Extinguishers?
Okay, even though it dragged on and it could’ve been a shorter book i’m still giving it ⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars
