Charlie Donlea has been an author I just love to read books from; So, when scouring Netgalley and coming across one of his new books I just had to request it.
This new book is called ‘Behind every face’ and is about uncovering fraud and something much bigger.

Ollie Whittaker known for his website The Whittaker Report had a missed call from his estranged little brother Lucas resulting in a pressing voicemail. The voicemail told Ollie that Lucas has uncovered something major and wants his brother to publish it but when Ollie goes to the meeting point Lucas gave him, he came across something so devastating, he didn’t know what to do. At some decrepit office on Old Elm Street, he strolled into a crime scene, there was so much blood and not only that; there was also a severed finger laying partially hidden under a desk. When looking in the back office he saw the dead body of his brother. Estranged for years and when they wanted to mend things, his younger brother had been murdered. The story lost but not completely, Ollie wasn’t one of the top reporters by giving up; he would find out what Lucas had uncovered.
The voicemail said no police but that was before his brother has been murdered, Ollie decided to call it in anonymously, but what happened next, he couldn’t wrap his head around. Even before the police arrived the feds showed up and took point on the scene. How did they know about this crime and what was Lucas mixed up in? The pieces of that puzzle were hard to find; where to begin? Ollie was being hunted just by association to Lucas, even though he didn’t know anything, the people that hunted him down thought he would break the case wide open and would have the damage limited if they knew what he knew; but they couldn’t have been more wrong! He didn’t know jack shit.
With Lucas dead, operation Glass House was compromised and FBI agent Cal Brixton knew he has to put his second informant somewhere save; setting up WITSEC hoping that would keep her out of trouble. With Andi Vonn placed in a town far away from NY with a new identity it was time to find out where the information uncovered went. He knew who had the flashdrive with the damning evidence but the girl was no where to be found. Brooks Davis was a billionaire; he knew how to make things disappear and keep his business save. With a professional hit man in his pocket nothing could go wrong, he just had to even the playing field which meant; Killing Brixton, finding Andi and killing her and lastly finding Gabriella; the girl that made the information available in the first place.
It’s a wild goose chase but a good one. I pictured Davis as the actor portraying Mr. Edgar in the boys or Remington from the blacklist; they would be ideal for his role. Who would win in the end though? Brooks Davis? Ollie Whittaker? Or no one?
This book was a solid ⭐⭐⭐⭐ star read.
