I had the opportunity to read a rerelease from a book I personally haven’t heard of before but once I saw the cover I got intrigued.

The series is called twisted pines and already has 4 books and I might even pick the others up as well.

One thing that kept bothering me somewhat and mind you, English isn’t my first language; it was grammar mistakes, double words in a sentence. As a rerelease you would think that those things have long been sorted out, right?

Anyhow, let’s get in to “Twisted Lies” by Kai Juniper the first book in the twisted pines series.

Rumor just can’t say goodbye, why does she have to leave? Why so far? It isn’t fair! Leaving her boyfriend of two years behind but thinking a long-distance relationship would totally work because they love each other dearly. Why did her mom have to die? The only family member left? Some famous uncle she has never met in all her years on this earth. And her dad? Yeah, he’s alive but she hasn’t seen him more than 9 times in all her live so, doesn’t count. And, he’s in rehab, again.

Leaving everything you’ve ever known behind it hard but beginning something new at a whole new place with someone you don’t know is even harder, throw his celebrity status in the mix and you might say it’s a nightmare. But believe me, for Rumor it is. Leaving New-York behind to live in LA.

Once she’s there a driver awaits her arrival and drops her off at her lunch date with her uncle, which is the first time they meet in person. One thing is for sure, where NY has all this fast food and deliciousness, LA is lacking. Who eats salads that tastes like grass? Gross!

Another teensy tiny surprise, she isn’t going to live in LA but in La Jolla or something. A small town near San Diego, more than two hours away from LA. Since public school is out of the question and Rumor has to enroll in some fancy private school she really doesn’t want to go to. She feels lost, not having enough contact with her boyfriend axl, who always has something to do which he didn’t when she still lived nearby. Making herself go mad with jealousy.

At the house (and oh my god, what a house!) she soon meets her cousins, Braden who is her age and Trystan a year her prior. Total asses they are, privileged brats. Rumor soon learns what she’s gotten herself into, why couldn’t she stay in NY? Her uncle doesn’t even live in the house she’s staying at most of the time. Which leaves her with her cousins for most of the time. No drivers license, no way of getting around, no friends.

Until she meets this guy, well actually he crashed into her when he was on a run. My god, he’s huge! He’s so muscular and big that even Braden doesn’t compare. That first meeting didn’t really go as it should. And the second, when rumor sneaks out of the house to free her head and walks along the beach doesn’t go any better. Some guy shouts angrily to get off his property, but since when is a beach private? Or the ocean? Just to egg him on, she goes in the water which was a very very stupid idea because when that first wave comes, she’s already lost her footing. Leaving her scraped and bruised BUT did get to know the hot and muscular guy which she becomes friends with.

It gets obvious really quick that the rules here are very different. Her cousins don’t want her there, her uncle is too busy with trying to get acting jobs to be a present parent and when he is around, he is a tough nut to crack. Can’t talk about her father, can’t talk about her mother, can’t see or hang with who she wants. Everyone must be in the same league as her uncle and cousins or else it’s a hard no. But there is one guy, one guy that is the total archnemesis of the boys… One guy she actually feels comfortable with and let that guy be none other than the enemy.

I’m giving this book a ⭐⭐⭐.75 star rating.
