The second book I’ve read on vacation is “when among crows” by Veronica Roth, it’s the first book in a (what I think might be a) duology called the curse bearer. It’s a bit of a deep dive in slavic folklore. The second book will be out this month!

I’ve read the divergent series by Veronica which was a great success in my eyes. I absolutely love books like divergent. The curse bearer books are not very thick but don’t misjudge them as being a light read because then you are mistaken.

I can say that this book was very interesting but the polish words / sentences were hard.

Dymitr is on a mission to harvest the Fern Flower, but to do so, you have to defeat the guardian in something so he can see you’re worthy. If you win and you get the chance to harvest there’s still a magical creature that will look into your worthiness by looking in your heart.

Once Dymitr has the flower he’s off to Zmora territory to find the cursed one he wants to bargain with. She can have the flower if she can find the legendary Baba Jaga and getting an audience with her.

Finding Baba Jaga isn’t easy and Dymitr and Ala have some difficult challenges to endure but they have help from Niko who is Strzyga which is also a magical creature. While the Zmora feed on fear the Strzyga feed on anger.

Ala and Niko don’t know why Dymitr needs to find Baba Jaga and he’s not willing to share just yet. He just keeps up appearances as the mere mortal that knows a bit too much about magic and magical creatures. But will they be able to find Baba Jaga and get the audience they so desperately crave?

I’m giving this book a ⭐⭐⭐.75 stars!
