I had the opportunity to eARC read another Minka Kent book, yay me!

The book is called “Trophy Wife” and was previously published in 2020 by Sunday Tomassetti which was a pseudonym for Minka Kent.

With the re-release that’s going to be published in October has a new cover and will be published under Minka’s real name.

In this story there are to POVs to follow, one is Cate Cabot’s and the other is Odessa DuVernay.

Cate works at a high-end boutique store selling antiques in a neighborhoods / town where the rich people live. But working in this shop by no means makes her one of the rich, no, Cate lives in a nearby town and has to scrape every penny to get by.

Besides from having a boyfriend, Cate is quite the loner, no friends because that would require hours of small talk which is something she does not do.

One day a woman comes by, beautiful, elegant and has a warmth to her. She introduces herself as Odessa DuVernay and even as it’s against store policy and Cate having difficulty with making and maintaining friends, she takes the leap and soon, a somewhat strange friendship blossom.

Odessa or Zsofia as she was named at birth has it hard, being a live-in help but actually is doing every single thing to keep the DuVernay household going. Shopping, being a taxi for the DuVernay daughter (which is secretly her daughter), doing all the household chores which include cooking. It’s a lot, but leaving those gates behind for even the smallest errant gives her a sense of freedom. Mrs. DuVernay is just the meanest person and Mr. DuVernay seems aloof, going with the flow.

Cate gets on with Odessa quite well, but Sean doesn’t trust her, there is something off, something not quite right. After some things happen and Odessa suddenly stands at her door and tells the most horrifying story imaginable, Cate let’s her stay, helping a friend in need and all.

But what is true about her story? Are the DuVernay’s really that bad? What about the daughter?

It’s a solid ⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars!
