Oooo-kay, what did I just read?! My 7th 10 before the end book was ‘The good Samaritan’ by John Marrs, been on my TBR ever since PavisFrancesca recommended it in one of her IG posts, so it’s been a while.

This book is so dark and twisted yet also very intriguing and I can seriously see the outline of this story happening in real life but not all, since it’s so f.cked up.

The good Samaritan is about Laura Morris who is a volunteer at the ‘End of the Line’ helpline for people in need of someone that doesn’t judge and just listens. Mostly depressed people or people thinking about suicide call this line. Laura is taking it to another level though; why help people being stuck in this live when they clearly are looking for an out? Why not give them the nudge they need to just end it and with that their suffering.

Laura is a wife and mother of three, the beginning of this book was a bit confusing. Her being home alone and wondering where her husband and children are, cooking for all of them but only one portion gets eaten and the rest she freezes. It’s as if nobody is living at that house but herself.

After Laura got David to the point where he really wanted to end his live but didn’t want to do it alone, she looked for someone that could join him in this suicide pact. It was no easy feet and she had to scour some platforms to look for an ideal candidate and then getting that candidate to call ‘the end of the line’. Once all was set in motion and the end date was picked as well as the location, she let both buy a pay as you go phone and wanted to be on the line with them when they committed Suicide by jumping off a cliff. Hearing that ‘last breath’ was like a fix to Laura, almost euphoric.

Charlotte has severe case of prenatal depression and was done with life even though she only had 2 more months to go before they could meet their baby. She just couldn’t hold on any longer. When Ryan, her husband heard loud knocking on their door he thought his wife forgot their date night; but opening the door and seeing the police he had this sinking feeling. His wife committed suicide with someone, but why? She seemed to be doing much better. She even sounded happy when he called her this morning. After months of rage towards his wife for deciding to take the easy way out and with that killing their baby, he got her electronic devices back from the police and after doing something to the tablet and finding a whole lot of information his planning began; Revenge on the person that took away his wife and son.

This book is filled with a lot of dark stuff; the manipulation in this book is something next level and after getting to know Laura a bit better throughout the story I couldn’t come to terms with the fact that a woman as dangerous as she was wandering the world a free woman but you’ll learn what a cunning woman she is and how she’s always two steps ahead. The amount of death in this book was rather high but still, what a story. The only thing I would’ve wanted to know if where it really ends for her, the end is a bit to open for my liking.

Still a good ⭐⭐⭐⭐,5 star rating!
