I can only do my happy dance when I get the chance to ARC read one of Helen’s new books. This one is the 16th (!!!!!) book in the Morgan Brookes series and will be released on the 29th of September and is called ‘Gone in the night’.

How many murders can happen in a town? And the number of serial killers, oh my god. If this would be in the real world, Rydal Falls is a place to avoid at all costs let me tell you that.

Amy is going on maternity leave so a new officer is appointed to take her spot until she gets back. His name is Tristan but he likes to be called Stan, which Morgan isn’t fond of because it reminds her of her father. They don’t have to wait long for a new case to drop and it’s all hands-on deck.

A groundskeeper has to evict a camper from the premises since she has stayed two days longer than paid for. So, it’s either pay up or pack up. When the groundskeeper smells something decaying near the roof-tent he gets a feeling. Something isn’t right and that feeling is correct, in the roof-tent lies a woman with a knife protruding for her chest.

After police procedures are done and the body has left for the morgue and she is identified as Sharon and our favorite duo is on their way to do the death notification it becomes clear that the dynamics within the family aren’t how they should be. The stepdad; Stefan will be put on the suspect list after a recent fight comes to light.

Working out what happened and losing one of their own; everyone’s minds are all over the place. That’s when yet another body is discovered. Found under the same circumstances as the first body, the one thing the women had in common? Being active on social media. So, the unsub has to be one of their followers, right?

I thought I knew who the unsub was in the beginning. I thought it was weird that a new officer was appointed Amy’s spot instead of someone we already know from the station. My thought was, what if Stan is a serial killer to just like Morgan’s biological brother that was once a police officer to? But I got it wrong. I did not see the ending coming.

But Helen, a cliffhanger? Really? How can you do that to me? *crying*

It was a fast paced read, loved the banter and the work ethic. Loved that Amy had her baby.
Loved every minute of it.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars to the Queen that wrote these beauties of books!
