This is the first book I’m not sure how to review without spoiling because some of the things happening in this book are something else.

I’m talking about the new book by John Marrs called Dead in the water, it’s a true masterpiece.

Damon is a man is his twenties, divorced but still best of friends with his ex-wife Melissa. When out for drinks with their friend group Damon and Melissa agree on something; to do something way out of their comfort zone once a month.

The dare Melissa came up with was swimming in the ocean because Damon is very afraid of swimming. After swimming back Melissa can’t see Damon anymore, when she finally finds him, she brings him back to shore but it’s too late. He’s dead. Her training takes over and she starts resuscitation immediately. When he comes back to live, he asks about the little boy in the water, but she didn’t see anyone except him.

Damon is seeing a ghost of a boy but he can’t remember him, he thinks the only way to get more details about this boy is by dying and coming back to live again…

But after dying and coming back another time there is another person next to the boy, someone he has missed so much. His mother.

His ex-wife and her girlfriend want to start a family and because they are going to a private clinic for it, to speed things along they asked Damon to be the donor. Still being very close to Melissa he agrees, not only because he wants her to be happy but he also wants to be a father even if it means he has to go about doing it this way. But with this he also has leverage to blackmail someone into doing what you want them to do.

With weeks going by, Damon has begun isolating himself and has lost lots and lots of weight. The number of times he has been brought back from death? Three times… And the details that have come back to him are absurd.

When he finds out what happened to his memories and after finding the one that did this to him, he goes for another round of ECT he begins to remember a big part of what has been taken away from him when he was 12. After finding out what happened his live takes a turn…

⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars, what a masterpiece. Also, chapter 20 blew my mind.
