Brimstone by Callie Hart

I just couldn’t resist picking up Brimstone by Callie Hart and pause my 10 before the end challenge yet again. I have been waiting for this book to be released ever since I read Quicksilver. I know the opinions on that book are either phenomenal or abysmal but I really enjoyed that one.

Where in Quicksilver there isn’t much spice, Brimstone will take it up a notch or two. I have been skipping some of it since I’m not really there for those scenes and I have been rolling my eyes quite a lot during the time it took to read this book because some words are mentioned way too much. With the word ‘Mate’ being in there more than a hundred times, sometimes mentioned twice within a page; I mean, we know they are Mated, you don’t have to tell us anymore. Maybe at the beginning once or twice but after that it gets annoying. It gets annoying to have to read someone being revered to as Mate instead of Girl/Boy-friend, lover, or just by name.

I’m happy to say that one speculation can be crossed of the list; no love triangle! Hallelujah; if it’s one thing I’m being tired of reading love triangle is very high on the list. It’s not hip, it’s not cool and not interesting. Sorry!

Okay, Let’s begin!

At the end of Quicksilver, the King of the blood Court named Malcolm is murdered, Saeris has been made a Vampire but wakes up half Fae half vampire. Shocker; She is the new Queen of the blood Court even though the vampires don’t like it. Tal, one of the five Lords of Midnight but also the one that saved Saeris from certain death by making her vampire will still be second in command.
The coronation isn’t really going as planned since almost all of the Lords of Midnight protest; How can someone that still has a heartbeat and warm blood be Queen of coldblooded vampires? Point made I guess, after some demonstration from Saeris and Fisher only one seems to make a choice that will be paid with his life.

In the duration of this book; Saeris, Fisher, Lorreth and Carrion will alternate between Sanasroth and Cahlish. When Saeris isn’t in Sanasroth Tal will be regent and make decisions in her absence. With Saeris being an Alchemist and Runes that keep appearing but no information on what they are and what they do, Saeris is at a loss. Her first time back in Cahlish she visits Fishers’ half-sister Layne, whom is still in a fugue state and hasn’t regained consciousness yet; but once Saeris touches her, she speaks but it’s not the right voice… The words are all weird and done have meaning for Saeris. Once the woman who has been speaking through Layne tells Saeris she’s Edina and she needs to find a book within the blood Courts library, one with the butterflies and seal her runes! If she doesn’t, she can’t use them properly.

There is so much happening throughout this book; Hayden comes to Yvelia, Ren goes missing, Curses are broken and a whole lot of fighting take place. Saeris needs to learn more about her runes, how to seal them, use them but also how to kill feeders that are infected, feeders that aren’t from the blood Court but are infected and from Zilvaren, bringing rot with them and killing land and people within minutes. No magic can be used on them because the magic you use on them, they will take to feed on.

Aside from some words that were used way to much, the book wasn’t as catching as Quicksilver and for that reason I’m giving it ⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars.
