Another day another ARC read. This time I had the opportunity to read the newest book by Mallory Arnold called ‘Cross my heart, I hope you die’. This is the second book I had the chance to ARC read by this author. ❤︎

This book will be released on the 14th of July and is categorized in the following genres; General Fiction, Horror and mystery/thrillers. The Horror label was lost on me, but let’s get started!

In this book we follow three ladies; Ruby, Nora and Cham. They live in the same town but don’t know each other, they do have one thing in common though; they share the same boyfriend, without them knowing it; it’s only by chance that the ladies met. Ruby is a kindergarten teacher and is walking home when a car owned by Nora almost hits her. The car dropped of at Cham’s garage to be fixed does she get a call. When the ladies hear the name ‘Jason’ they are somewhat alerted. When they find out they are all dating Jason Porter; Jason the business man, Jason the handy-man, Jason the ex-athlete… But in actuality it’s Jason the freeloader, Jason the liar.

After Jason finds out the ladies know about sharing him does he ghost them. Leaving Cham without her premium tools she uses in her garage, leaving Ruby with a 20.000 debt and Nora with a debt also and on the verge of losing everything. After trying to go to the police to get their stuff back without success; they keep coming together to form a plan, a plan in which Jason will confess that he has loaned all. Ruby just inherited a cabin in the mountains, two hours from where they live, the ideal spot for this plan to play out.

The plan; lure Jason to the cabin with a new woman that is in on the plan, with him being such a lightweight and easily scared they want to scare him in confessing. You are only able to reach the cabin by air gondola’s and with them coming on the last one of the day, they have a lot of time because it doesn’t ride at night. Little did they know that the area where the cabin is located is actually the old stomping ground of a cult. When they arrive they find all these weird things, buckets of congealed blood, weird drawings on the wall and multiple cabin’s which they didn’t think was the case.

But they aren’t alone on this mountain; there is someone lurking in the shadows and hunting… killing… Who will survive? Is it someone from the cult hunting them? A cult that should’ve left a long time ago…

I’ve enjoyed reading this book; it was a bit slow though and the horror genre I don’t really get because it wasn’t gory at all. The pace picked up at 60% of the book and kept me glued to my kindle. I did see the end coming, somewhat.

I’m giving this book a ⭐⭐⭐.5 star rating.
