The first book of this month was one from the 26 in ’26 list, this time the wheel picked the following two books to be read this month. The house Saphir by Marissa Meyer and The invisible life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab. I’ve just finished The House Saphir by Marissa Meyer.
I’ve been reading a little less over the last couple of weeks; our beloved grandmother had died and I just couldn’t focus on a book but I think my concentration is coming back.
The house Saphir has been released in November of 2025 and has been written by none other than Marissa Meyer; she’s one of my go to Fantasy writers. This book was a bit different though; Yes, it was fantasy but it was also paranormal.

Mallory Fontaine is a fraud; it’s well known that she and her sister come from a long line of witches but the only magic she possesses is to see and talk to ghosts. Her sister owns a little shop and does fortune readings but hasn’t the slightest idea what the cards actually mean. Mallory has had a new business venture where she gives tours in the abandoned house called the house Saphir; once the home of a well-known wife murderer Bastien Saphir also known as monsieur Le Bleu. The house is said to be haunted by Triphine, first wife and first kill by Le Bleu. Costumers want to know all about Le Bleu but also want to see if the house is haunted or not.
On Mallory’s last tour through the house something goes wrong, her clients were not who they said they were but were in actuality inspectors trying to prove of Mallory’s fraudulent activities and trespassing. A good thing is the other client is actually a descendent from Le Bleu and the actual owner of the house Saphir. Once the inspectors disperse a magical creature comes out of the shadows and tries to eat them, luckily Mr. Saphir is a fast thinker; seeing an exit.
Mr. Saphir, first name Armand; has a job proposal. Seven years prior the ghost of Le Bleu has returned to the original estate to haunt it with a vengeance. Even though Mallory and Anaïs don’t actually have magic, she accepts. There has to be a way to con through this job.
When arriving at the estate, she meets the other two wives within a day but hasn’t had the pleasure to meet Le Blue yet. What she learns has her seeing everything in a new light. Le Bleu was actually a sorcerer practicing dark magic. He had to kill 5 wives to get immortality, sadly for him he was murdered before wife four was killed; but his ghost form was very different then the rest of them and he could do way more things without it really draining him which made him a very dangerous ghost indeed.
When Le Bleu goes all out things are getting dangerous, very dangerous indeed.
I’m giving this book a ⭐⭐⭐⭐ star rating.
