My 126th book of 2025 was one I saw recommended on tiktok, so naturally I had to buy the book and read it.

I’m talking about Victorian Psycho by Virginia Feito; thriller / horrorish and just under 200 pages. A quick read I thought but that wasn’t the case because the subject was rather heavy.

Taking place in the Victorian era Winifred has seen many places, as an unwanted baby because people could sense her evil soul; her mother didn’t want her, her father out of the picture so a children’s home it was, but when Winnie became a toddler, they didn’t want her anymore and her mother had to come and get her again. Her mother tried multiple times to unalive little Winnie, because Winnie was not normal. Child of the devil, she was called.

Winnie gets a position as governess of the Pound children, an extravagant family of riches. The children are rather dumb and don’t want to learn, Andrew being the sole heir of the estate. Why learn when you’re born with a silver spoon in your mouth? And Drusilla? She just wants to find a rich husband that takes care of her.

Dark events that has happened in her home town follow her all the way to her new job, little did they know that Winnie is actually the one that did the crime the staff seem to be talking about; but there is something dark living in Winnie, striking in odd situations which result in staff members being afraid of her.

People are disappearing but at the Christmas party the Pound family is hosting is where the moment supreme takes place. It’s like a mass massacre but the one you think did it, isn’t to blame alone. Still, why has Winifred closed in on the Pound family?

The dishes that are served and eaten give me the absolute chills and are gag worthy but are something of the time this book plays out; so alas.

I’m giving this book ⭐⭐⭐ stars, it wasn’t for me persé.
