You best believe that when Helen announces that she is releasing a new book that I’ll be stalking Netgalley for the ARC version. After weeks of looking; it finally came on and I got approved rather quick. It’s the 17th book in the Morgan Brookes series called Silenced Sisters.

The last book ended in a cliffhanger; they thought the killer was gone after Beth confessed and then she offed herself. A month off smooth sailing, no murders; just a couple of minor things but it wouldn’t be a Morgan Brookes novel if that wouldn’t change within a very short amount of time.

A murder has taken place in an abandoned hotel and that murder has the same fingerprint as the murders in the previous book; does that mean they have a copycat killer? Which is highly unlikely since they haven’t released the specifics to the public or did Beth work with someone and took the fall to protect that person?

Also, a coincidence is that the victim is Lauren Williams which is the sister of the victim of the murder from 2 months ago; Lydia. Lauren was working security on the hotel, making sure no one was inside but it could’ve happened anywhere since it has become clear that the sisters were targeted by someone. There is one sister still unaccounted for.

In this book we go back in time a bit and follow Angela, who had a baby but also suffered Postnatal Depression, with one mistake her whole world fell to pieces. Her baby got taken away by her husband and given to his sister to raise and she was without a house and marriage within a day of that mistake. Little did I know that the Angela we read about back in the day is the same Angela as the one dating Cain!

Amy has had a lot of help from Cain with her baby Ava, she has a bit of the baby blues because she’s doing it all on her own which is hard especially if you have a baby that doesn’t seem to want to settle unless Cain is in nearby. So, Cain helps out whenever he can and he is such a loveable man when you read about him and baby Ava. He’s ultimate dad material.

The team can’t seem to catch a break, they soon find that the lost sister has also been murdered only days after Lydia, does that mean that the killer is done? What is the relationship between the sisters and the unsub? Morgan has a hunch but Ben shoots it down, he thinks this hunch is absolutely ridiculous even though throughout the story you are actually thinking the same as Morgan, could it be Scotty? He’s been first on scene on every murder and the accident that killer their parents or was this truly just a coincidence?

We have DI Mark on annual leave which makes it so that he could also have done it and then there is Stan, the one that covers when Amy is on maternity leave, a newcomer because… why not?

When the story unravels you won’t see it coming, you just won’t because all eyes are on Scotty. But did he truly do it? Was he set up?

Again, ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars!
