With the first book being an absolute gem of a story, I had high hopes for the second one, and I can tell you; it did not disappoint.

Before you continue reading this review; if you haven’t read the first book yet you might want to consider not reading any further because it will spoil the first book.

I can’t believe the story is concluded and there won’t be any new books, I’m going to miss Rune Winters.

Grief is a powerful thing, especially when you’re grieving someone you’ve loved very much. Being in the company of the prince is one thing, but being engaged to be married to one. Only weeks after her fiancé and best friend Alex was killed as he sprung in front of his brother Gideon to save him. Having no way to escape the wrench that did it, because she is a powerful witch and has a plan that your part of… It’s disappointing.

Gideon promised to find Rune and kill her for what she did; sympathizing and helping Cressida raising an army? What was she thinking! Cressida wants her throne back and resurrect her sisters who’s bodies she has been preserving but to do so, she has to find her half-sister; one she didn’t even know existed. If she succeeds and get back the reign over the land she ruled over once, a whole lot of people will die. The sister queens were known for their tyranny.

Cressida is fixated, she needs an army to infiltrate Cascadia and fight every last blood guard to secure her land. She put Rune up to seducing the prince of Umbria named Soren, in exchange for marrying Soren, Rune had to barter for an army helping Cressida’s cause, even though Rune doesn’t believe in this cause but can’t seem to escape. In Cascadia she’s a wanted woman that will be executed when caught and here she’s the prisoner of Cressida.

She’s absolutely disgusted by the fact that Soren sees her as his possession instead of his equal. The plans Cressida has are ludicrous and she doesn’t want to be part of it; so she begins scheming. She only needs one man to help her, Gideon, the man she trusted once and gave a piece of her heart to only to have it broken in a million pieces.

But he will come, he will take her back to Cascadia and once there all bets are off. Will Gideon take her in? Will he finally see the light and trust Rune? Will he weasel his way out? What will it be?

Who do you think wins this war? Rune or Cressida; keep in mind that Cressida is a very powerful witch and Rune hasn’t learnt all about magic yet but she is the one with the brains.

I’m giving this book ⭐⭐⭐⭐,5 stars !
