A while ago I had the opportunity to ARC read ‘The last morning’ by Camden Baird and that book did not disappoint at all! I actually thought it was rather thrilling and read the book in less than 24 hours. Now, her new book called ‘The next lie’ was available as ARC read and I did not hesitate to apply; Luckily, I was accepted.
This one is a sequel to ‘The last morning’ and again, read it within 24 hours because I just couldn’t put it down. The only thing you have to be able to do is read different POV’s because almost every chapter is another POV; also, past and present.

It’s a year and a half after Sadie and Allen’s daughter Emma was kidnapped, but that kidnapping had a happy ending, Emma is save and sound and is thriving. Emma is nearly seven and her aunties are taking her on a fancy kiddie cruise for a week. Allen has been trying to save his marriage after his infidelity came to light in the first book. He’s taking Sadie on vacation to the Caribbean, since Emma is gone it’ll be the perfect couple’s holiday.
But on the morning of the day Emma gets picked up for her vacation, Allen’s gone missing. Sadie wakes up to loud sirens and after telling Emma, who got curious and came to ask Sadie what’s happening- to go back to bed Sadie’s out the back door because they’ve arrived at her neighbors’ house. When she sees a stretcher being wheeled out; the body covered up, she knows. Cass Thomas is dead and Allen has gone missing… Or is he on the run?
Throughout the whole story every single person (except for the police) has some kind of motive to harm Cass and almost all of them saw Cass on the day she died. It’s been a whirlwind of a story and it keeps you thinking throughout about who you think would’ve really done it. Allen seems to be a to obvious choice but still you can’t just cross him of the list now can you?
In this book you’ll also read about Kate again, the one that was arrested as an accomplice in the kidnapping of Emma and how she’s now out on parole and trying to better herself. I think it’s good that she’s in the story to. Having read both this story has gone full circle.
Also, how many secrets can a person have? Truth will out, even if it takes a decade.
I’m giving this book ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars; it kept me wondering and I didn’t want to put it down.
