I thought Storm Breaker by Nisha J. Tuli would be a duology but after reading the second book I don’t think that’s true. I absolutely wouldn’t mind more books in this series.

The betrayal in this book is something you won’t see coming and the heartbreak, phew. I really loved reading this and had a few times that I had to take a moment.

The wastes, that is where Poet wakes up with Rook after fleeing New Manhattan because Trinity accused Poet of being a keeper. Trin, who has been her lifelong best friend has betrayed her and with that happening, Poet’s live was in danger; hence fleeing to the wastes. Rook has been stabbed when he saved Poet’s live and is in bad shape but luckily soldiers of the waste arrive quickly, helping Rook and taking them to an encampment but with Poet being an outsider she has been knocked out for this trip.

With a very eventful time in the wastes and learning that everything Poet has learned in New Manhattan by The Shield was an outright lie an uninvited guest arrives – General Sol. They soon learn that general Sol is the same as them and are actually called Storm Callers, she’s willing to learn them all she has learned over the years and will help clear Poet’s name if they come back to New Manhattan and going on a secret side quest. The wastes is looking for a cure for keepers that have lost their minds and General Sol has told them that there is a cure, the shield is just harboring this secret.

It takes some time and a trail for Poet to join society again, going back to class and learning more about what she’s actually capable of. When going on a storm guard lesson in the front lines for the cadets to see what they are in for, her ex-brother-in-law Henry gets struck by spark and with that, all rules about staying safely inside are out the window – Poet starts CPR on Henry but in her attempt to save him she gets hit by spark and is thrown of the storm tower. When she wakes up, she’s in some kind of headquarters of a secret organization called ‘The Fog’. An organization that has been looking to out the shield and look for a cure for the keepers.

It’s a whole adventure, learning Edward has been taken to prison for hacking the citadel and likely seeing something he wasn’t supposed to see. Guilt ridden because it was Poet who got him to go in the first place. She makes it her mission and that of the fog to learn where Edward was taken and a plan is forming to take him to safety.

When the head of Amery summons the students into the great hall, something seems off. That’s when everyone gets told they will all be undergoing the keepers blood test right now so they could weed out the infected – When the light for Journey’s blood test turns red, Poet knows something is up because Journey is a storm guard cadet and her blood has been tested on numerous occasions; but then it’s Rook’s turn and when that light turns red also, Poet yells for him to run, to get himself to safety. It takes the guards days to apprehend him, but when Poet and the Veil are looking for Rook, all of the shields nasty secrets come to light and all hell breaks loose.

The end is open, so I’m expecting there to be more – I WANT there to be more and soon.
