Finished my first 26 in 26 challenge book for this month. Spin the wheel choose the following two books for this month to read; K.L. Slater’s Message Deleted and Tahereh Mafi’s Every spiral of fate.

I Picked K.L. Slater’s Message Deleted as my first read for this challenge because after reading two Young Adults and a Psychological Thriller I couldn’t get myself to read a fantasy just yet and after seeing all the hype for this book I actually couldn’t wait to dive in.

This is my second book by K.L. Slater and she doesn’t disappoint; her characters are written to a T and you can actually get annoyed with some characters and how well written they are, at least that’s my opinion. Let’s get into it shall we?

Three years ago Saffy had everything in order, yes, she was a tad overprotective and if you where one of the people in her inner circle she could mother you to no end which could be annoying for the person on the receiving end, but after that faithful night where she almost lost her sister, she became overprotective, so much so that she couldn’t function. Couldn’t go outside because of her fear that someone would come and harm her or the people close to her. Her husband couldn’t take it any longer and divorced her, getting sole custody of their son Fox.

Now, Saffy can go outside and function somewhat normal. She even has a job again and she has her son all to herself every Thursday afternoon. With the company she’s working for letting people go she has a new job interview right now. But then her best friend sends her some weird texts and when Saffy read those, the texts are deleted again. Her best friend Leona has been married to Ash, a man that has been isolating her from her friends and just last week Leona told Saffy about the abuse she’s endured at his hands. Saffy get’s anxious, so much so that when she’s called in for the interview, she excuses herself and rushes of too Leona’s house. When everything seems fine and Leona reassures her that nothing is wrong, no texts were sent from her phone, Saffy goes home. Only hours later the police knock on her door and Saffy just knows, something happened to Leona and her goddaughter Rosie.

Being the main suspect because she was the last to see the family alive and well, Saffy lays all the cards on the table but gets the feeling she isn’t believed by the detectives. That evening she takes matters in her own hands; Leona always wrote in her journal, every bit of abuse by Ash should be in there, she has to find it. She has a spare key to the house so surely it wouldn’t be breaking and entering. When she gets to the house and begins her search, she hears glass shattering… Who’s breaking in? Saffy get’s downstairs to see her sister searching for something. When Poppy comes clean on why she’s there Saffy is flabbergasted and angry.

There are so many twists and turns in this book, so many people who could’ve actually done it but the person who’s actually responsible, you really don’t see coming. I got annoyed by Saffy’s behavior, it was so erratic and overbearing that I as a reader couldn’t stand her, her recklessness was mindboggling.

Giving this a ⭐⭐⭐⭐.5 star rating!
